The review request flow for Shopify stores
A two-email review request flow for Shopify stores: when to ask, what to ask, full copy, and setup notes for Klaviyo, Omnisend and review apps.
The flow at a glance
Reviews do more work than almost any other piece of content on your store. They feed product pages, ads and emails, and they tell Tilly what your customers care about.
Condition: exit anyone who leaves a review.
- 1Email 1: The ask
- 2Email 2: The prompt
Email 1: The ask
Subject: How is your product working out?
Preview: One click to rate it
One line of thanks. Star rating buttons right in the email. A line saying reviews help other people with the same questions decide.
Email 2: The prompt
Subject: One question about your product
Preview: It takes 30 seconds
Give them something specific to answer: "What did you worry about before buying, and how did it turn out?" Specific questions produce the reviews that answer other shoppers' objections.
Why it works: a prompt about their worry before buying produces exactly the proof your other emails need.
Setup notes
Klaviyo: trigger on "Fulfilled Order" with a delay matched to how long your product takes to use. If your review app (Judge.me, Okendo, Loox, Yotpo, Stamped) sends its own requests, use one or the other, not both.
Omnisend: use an order-fulfilled trigger with a delay, or let your review app send.
Klaviyo: which template, which delay
Start from the Product review / cross-sell template in the flow library. With a third-party review app the flow starts on fulfilment, so the delay has to cover delivery as well as use. Klaviyo's help centre gives a two-week delay as its example. source, checked 25 September 2026
Klaviyo's own Reviews product can start the request from delivery instead of fulfilment, which removes the guesswork about shipping times. If you already use Judge.me or REVIEWS.io, both connect to Klaviyo, so the choice is about who sends, not about losing your reviews. source, checked 25 September 2026
What to measure
- Review rate per order
- Share of reviews that mention a specific worry or result
- Photo review rate, if your app supports it
Read the reviews, not just the count
A rising review count is the easy number. The useful one is how many new reviews name a worry the buyer had and say how it turned out, because those are the sentences your product pages, ads and welcome emails need. If email 2's prompt is working, that share goes up; if it does not, change the question before you change the timing.
Questions people ask
When should I ask for a review?
After the customer has had time to use the product. For a quick-use product, a few days after delivery. For skincare or supplements, two to four weeks.
Can I offer a discount for reviews?
You can offer an incentive for leaving a review, but not for leaving a positive one, and incentivised reviews generally need to be disclosed. Check the rules in the countries you sell to and your review platform's policy.
Can customers leave a review without leaving the email?
Not through a Klaviyo email with a third-party review app. The stars link to the review form on your site. Check whether your review app's own emails support an in-email form if that matters to you. source, checked 25 September 2026
Which review apps work with Klaviyo?
Klaviyo names Judge.me and REVIEWS.io among the review apps it integrates with. Whatever app you use, Klaviyo can still send the request. source, checked 25 September 2026
How Tilly uses the reviews
New reviews go straight back into your personas, so pain points, proof and language stay current.
How Tilly's email agent runs it
Tilly's default is one request, 14 days after the order is fulfilled, in its own flow rather than tacked onto the post-purchase emails. It never carries a discount: a rule fixed in Tilly for this flow, which keeps you clear of paying for positive reviews. It goes to Klaviyo as a draft, so if your review app already asks, you can leave it switched off.
See this on your own store
Paste your store URL. The first pass takes about a minute and needs no account. Save a card (nothing is charged) and Tilly reads the whole store and works out who buys from you.
